Rader Date of Interview: 06/08/2009 Background: Robert F. Rader was appointed as the Director of the Surgeon General’s Office of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on September 16, 2004. He retired from NIH on September 16, 2009. He was previously the director of the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) from 1994 to 2004. Prior to that, he was the associate director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) from 1989 to 1994. Rader is a clinician-scientist who completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Alabama. He also served as an instructor and research assistant at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Harvard School of Public Health. Rader was a staff member of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 1984 to 1994, and became a senior staff member of the NCI in 1994. Interview Robert F.
